Celebrities were out in full force on Monday for the much-anticipated unveiling of Jacquemus’s Le Chouchou collection. Staged at the spectacular Château de Versaille, the 17th-century palace outside Paris that was once home to Marie Antoinette, the show was a feast for the senses as models Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Deva Cassel (whose mother, Monica Bellucci, was watching) took to the bright red runway in a series of dramatic all-white looks.
While there was certainly enough on the runway to command attention, it was hard to look away from the “front row” (a series of rowing boats that bobbed on the lake), where Emily Ratajkowski was serving Parisian summer elegance with a sultry red lip.
“It was Em’s idea for the red lip,” says make-up artist Bari Khalique. “She had seen the collection before and acknowledged the red accents. Her outfit was white so we thought the red lip would really pop instead of going for the usual nude.”

To create the look, Khalique opted for a liquid lipstick from Nars, but says any brand will do as long as it’s a liquid formula. “Start by applying the colour at the centre of your lips before rubbing the lips together until the colour spreads by itself to create a soft outline. There’s no need for lip liner here. Then clean the shape up with a Q-tip.” To keep the lips well moisturised and to create a layer of shine, Khalique added a touch of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream.
When using a red of this intensity, you want the lips to do the talking, so everything else needs to be soft; soft eyes and a soft glow. “We added blush across the face for a halo effect, which is actually an EmRata signature.” To finish, Khalique added a layer of Givenchy Beauty Prisme Libre Powder. “A bold red lip conveys defiance,” says Khalique. “It’s about going against the grain and being confident.” Something we can all aspire to.
