For one night only, we saw the extraordinary British Vogue and LuisaViaRoma Runway Icons show take place on an open-air runway in Florence’s magical Piazzale Michelangelo.
Set before an audience of over 1,500 people, some of the biggest models in the world showcased over 100 looks from over 50 household designer names and trailblazing young talents. The impeccably coordinated beauty looks kept the models in one accord.
Pat McGrath took charge of the evening’s make-up looks – this time it was all about a perfectly lined bold lip. Each model sported eye-catching flashes of complementary reds, currants and crimson-pink lipsticks. The intensely saturated shades had the perfect base thanks to the lip smoothing KIKO Milano Lip Scrub.
“The makeup is a reflection of timeless beauty with unprecedented luminosity. The skin is perfected with radiance and hints of rose-coloured cheeks,” Pat McGrath shares. “The eyes are draped in soft taupes with subtle highlights on the lids. The emphasis of the makeup is the bold, iconic red mouth.” McGrath explains that the lips are shaped and defined with a custom mix of red lipsticks and pencils, that give a “a look of confidence” that go perfectly with any look.
A healthy soft-focus, skin-like finish was the aim. Using the Divine Skin Essence to prep the skin, McGrath then used the second skin Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation to help even out the complexion. The rose-tinted Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm was perfectly paired to each of the model’s skin tones for an elevated flush of colour with a dewy, luminous finish. While the light-as-air blurring Sublime Perfection Setting Powder and Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Blurring Under-Eye Powder were used to hold the timeless looks in place.
Legendary hairstylist Sam McKnight wanted the hair to serve as an ode to the “classic power chic” of the ’90s. “The look tonight is sleek, strong with ultra glossy chignons,” he said.
To achieve the look, McKnight started at the nape of the neck, applying the Self Control Gel on the roots, brushing hair flat carefully working up towards the front of the hairline combing hair flat backwards. Hair was slicked back into a low ponytail using Cock Grease hair pomade, then twisted and wrapped around the base to create a tight sleek chignon – using his unbeatable Modern Hairspray to finish. To style the edges of texture-rich hair, McKnight used the Self Control around the hairline. For fine hair, he applied his Modern Hairspray and Self Control “to tame flyaways and frizz.”
