The bob is having a moment – and another one, and another one. The latest take on the trend came courtesy of Elle Fanning, who lopped her signature poker-straight peroxide hair into a long bob that skims her shoulders. A series of scissor and floral emojis came with the Instagram debut snap, a three-part carousel that showcased the sleek and chic nature of the face-framing style – as well as the tousled effect that comes with a quick finger rake.
The classic cut is proving to be this year’s answer to the recent parade of jagged chops, with wet-look, baroque, and Italian-inspired bobs inspiring the likes of Gigi Hadid and Sydney Sweeney to ditch their long manes for a shorter brand of bombshell hair. Though undeniably more polished than a shag or mullet, the bob is just as easily individualised, with shifts in length (midi, micro), idiosyncratic additions (bangs, layering), and styling options (flipped ends, damp finishes), transforming the sophisticated cut into something more funky, or fun.
For Fanning, though, a timeless take will do – and her blunt and rounded midi bob is officially on our spring beauty moodboard.
